Police officer stabbed in Buxton

A policeman has been stabbed in the arm while responding to reports of a man acting suspiciously in Derbyshire.

The officer was treated in hospital for a stab wound to his arm, which was not serious, Derbyshire Police said.

The stabbing happened in Buxton's Market Place at 18:15 BST on Saturday.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon. Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack.

Derbyshire Police said: "Officers arrived and were confronted with a man holding a knife.

"The man assaulted a police officer which resulted in the officer requiring hospital treatment."
