Two people have been charged after an eight-week-old girl was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The baby was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital in the early hours of 12 January suffering from injuries including a bleed to the brain.

Jonathan Gerrard, 26, and Katrina Westworth, 22, both from Preston, are accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and child neglect.

They are due to appear before Preston Magistrates' Court on 17 September.

The girl, now nine months old, was treated at the Manchester Children's Hospital but has been discharged and is described as making steady progress, Lancashire Police said.
