Immigration arrests over 14 found in tanker in Croydon

Fourteen people have been arrested on suspicion of immigration offences after they were found in a tanker in south London, police have said.

The driver of the vehicle, which stopped in Purley Way, Croydon, at about 12:30 BST was also arrested on suspicion of facilitating illegal entry into the UK.

All of those inside were taken into custody, a police spokeswoman said.

They are to be referred to the Home Office, she added.

One person was checked over but did not need to be taken to hospital, according to London Ambulance Service.
