Version 0 of 1.

An optometrist has been charged with manslaughter following the death of an eight-year-old patient.

Vincent Barker, from Ipswich, died at his home in July 2013 after he reportedly became ill at school.

Honey Rose, 34, from Newham in east London, was formally charged after being summonsed to appear at South East Suffolk Magistrates' Court.

The charge relates to allegations of "gross negligence" resulting in Vincent's death.

The Ipswich Star, which first reported the case, said Vincent was understood to have been taken ill at Dale Hall Primary School before he died.

Ms Rose did not enter any plea during the hearing and was released on bail until an Ipswich Crown Court appearance next week.

The duties of eye specialists are said to include detecting signs of disease or injury through examinations, and they are trained to be aware of wider health conditions.
