Version 0 of 1.

A Birmingham police constable is one of three men charged with an alleged hoax kidnap plot after it was claimed an officer would be snatched by terrorists.

Amar Tasaddiq Hussain, 29, of the Birmingham west and central unit of West Midlands police, was charged with two counts of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and two counts of conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office. He was suspended from duty.

Adil Bashir, 25, from Small Heath, and Muhammad Sheikh, 30, from Bordesley Green, face the same four charges. The allegations relate to a false report to West Midlands police in December 2014 claiming an officer would be kidnapped as part of a terrorist plot.

A spokesman for the force said: β€œAt a time when the national threat level was severe, the threat was considered credible and police acted swiftly to protect officers and police staff – but an investigation revealed the call was false and malicious.”

A fourth suspect arrested on the day of the offence was eliminated from inquiries and later deported, police said.
