Simon Danczuk has said that Labour’s newly elected leader is perceived as “too left-wing, too untidy, too scruffy” in the eyes of some voters.

The Labour MP for Rochdale, who backed Liz Kendall, suggested Jeremy Corbyn would have to work on his image to appeal to the political centre ground.

Simon Danczuk, Labour MP Danczuk said: "The real challenge for Jeremy is that there is a gulf between what the members and supporters think who elected him and what the public think, and he has to change that gulf.

"He either has to moderate his views on the economy, he has to be much stronger on immigration, welfare, the public expect us to be strong on that, that's why we didn't do very well in 2015.

"Now he can either moderate his views or he has to go through a process of a programme of re-educating the public on these issues, and I think that's more difficult", according to the Telegraph.

"I think he has to moderate his views and get some more sensible policies in place, not least so that members of the Parliamentary Labour Party stay behind him but also so that he appeals better to the public."

The disgruntled MP, who stands on the right of the Labour party, previously said Labour MPs would work to overthrow Corbyn "from day one" if he was elected leader.

Since his election as leader of the Labour party on Saturday, Corbyn has been criticised for announcing that the top senior roles in his shadow cabinet will all be held by men.
