A man is due to appear in court accused of murdering a woman and trying to kidnap two children in Hertfordshire. A man has appeared in court accused of murdering a woman found dead at her home in Hertfordshire.

Marcin Porczynski, 25, is due to appear at Hatfield Magistrates' Court charged with murder, two counts of attempted kidnap and burglary. Marcin Porczynski, 23, of Claymore Avenue, appeared at Hatfield Remand Court charged with murder, two counts of kidnap and trespass with intent to inflict GBH.
He had been questioned and released by police, earlier on the evening that Mrs Cross died. He was remanded in custody to appear at St Albans Crown Court on Friday.
Officers had spoken to Mr Porczynski, of Claymore Avenue, an hour before her death after receiving reports of a man acting suspiciously, police said. Using a Polish interpreter, he spoke only to confirm his name, age and address.
When police were called back to Dunlin Road an hour later to investigate a burglary at a neighbouring home, Mrs Cross's body was discovered. Officers were first called at 22:30 BST after receiving reports a man was acting suspiciously, police said. A man was "spoken to" but he was not detained.
She lived next door to where the burglary was reported. Mrs Cross' body was found an hour later, when police responding to a separate call about a burglary at a neighbouring home heard a disturbance next door.

Det Chief Insp Jerome Kent said the children, aged six and three, were safe and with family, supported by trained officers.
"The events of Monday night have significantly impacted the wider community, however I would like to reassure you that this was a tragic and isolated incident," he said.
"We also understand people want answers but as you can imagine this has been and remains an extremely complex investigation."
