The rise of Uber has sparked protests and court cases around the world. But not two of Uber’s competitors, Lyft and Didi Kuaidi, have gone one step further and formed an international alliance against it.

Under the agreement, the duo plan to allow users of their own apps to order cabs from the other when they are travelling in the countries in which the other operates, the Wall Street Journal reported.

It intends to save passengers hassle too, as the fares will be collected in their domestic currency so there's no need to hand over foreign cash at the end of the journey.

The service won't be ready until next year, however.

Lyft and Didi are also in discussions to get India's Ola and Singpore's GrabTaxi on board, the WSJ added.

Uber, which has been valued at over $50 million, recently announced plans to take on Didi by opening up in another 100 cities in China.

Its Chinese business recently raised another $1.2 billion (£781.9 million) to help see that vision through.

Lyft remains much smaller than Uber, but it is still expecting to grow strongly over the coming months, with revenues projected to double in 2016, according to a Tech Crunch report.
