A woman who escaped from an arson attack on her home by jumping from the first-floor window with her toddler is "fighting for her life", police say.

The 44-year-old from Hatton Avenue in Slough is in hospital with life-threatening injuries, including a bleed on the brain and lung damage.

Her 19-month-old daughter was treated for minor burns in hospital.

Police are treating the blaze at 04:30 BST on Monday as attempted murder. No arrests have been made.

The woman's other children, aged 16, 18 and 21, also jumped from the first floor and were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

'Fighting for life'

Thames Valley Police called the fire an "an incident of arson with intent to endanger life" and are continuing to appeal for information.

Det Ch Insp Justin Fletcher said the fire caused a lot of damage to the house and is believed to have started at the front door with accelerant.

He said: "It has been four days since this shocking incident in Slough which was terrifying for those involved and has left a woman fighting for her life.

"We are treating the incident as an attempted murder and believe that the fire was started deliberately.

"This means that someone set out to cause harm to the occupants of the property, a family who included a 19-month-old child."
