Man injured during 'citizens' arrest' in Perth dies in hospital

A 36-year-old man who was injured during a “citizens’ arrest” behind a Perth hotel has died in hospital.

Police said the man was restrained by members of the public after he broke into vehicles on Bulwer Street in north Perth.

Media reports suggest he was detained by three men who came out of a nearby gym to confront him in the parking lot of the Hyde Park hotel.

Police said the man was held until officers arrived about 7.30pm when it was immediately apparent he needed medical assistance.

The man was taken to Royal Perth hospital where he died on Friday morning.

Police have not yet laid any charges and say the investigation is continuing.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

It is the second fatal “citizens’ arrest” in Perth in the past month.

On 29 August a 30-year-old man died after he was confronted in the front yard of a Lockridge home and restrained by the homeowner.
