Version 0 of 1.

A man who apparently was a would-be robber was shot and killed early Saturday in the busy H Street corridor in an outburst of gunfire that left his intended victims wounded, D.C. police said.

They said the incident occurred about 1 a.m. in the 700 block of H. According to one account, it may have occurred in an alley.

In a statement issued Saturday evening police identified the slain man as Jerome Leroy Wright, 32, of Northeast.

According to what was described as preliminary information, police said that all three were shot as Wright “was attempting to rob the other victims.”

The exact sequence of events was unclear. It was not known how many guns were involved in the incident.

Officers heard the gunshots. The three were pointed out to them, and they began tending to the victims, according to the police account. The officers used trauma kits, which contain tourniquets, and have been found effective in controlling bleeding and preventing shock.

On Friday, a woman suffered a non-fatal stab wound near the intersection of 1st and Galveston streets SW at 10:37 p.m. Police have not identified a suspect in that attack, Hickman said.

And at the intersection of 50th and B Streets SE at 12:25 a.m. Saturday, an adult male suffered a non-fatal stab wound. Hickman said that witnesses described the suspect as dark-complexioned and long-haired, wearing all black. Witnesses did not know whether the suspect was a man or a woman.
