Several gun-related incidents reported in Washington during past week
Version 0 of 1. No matter how safe a Washington neighborhood may be, it appears that it is never certain that someone you pass on the street is not carrying a gun. This was demonstrated in the past several days by incidents in Georgetown and in Foggy Bottom. Police said they were alerted to a theft Sept. 27 about 3 a.m. at a 7-Eleven in the 2600 block of P Street NW and were told that the thieves were walking west in the 2700 block of P Street. Officers stopped two men, police said. One was wearing a jacket, refused to take it off and became uncooperative, police said. After officers ordered him to place his hands on his head, police said, they spotted a bulge in his jacket. That led to a pat down and a search, during which the officers found a gun in the jacket, police said. Officers also found “a surplus” of disposable gloves. Police said the man was arrested for five offenses: carrying a pistol without a license, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of unregistered ammunition, possession of an unregistered firearm, and theft of disposable gloves. The Foggy Bottom incident occurred Wednesday in the 2200 block of I Street NW just east of the Foggy Bottom Metro station. The robber brandished a silver handgun, police said. With the gun, they said, he approached the victim and demanded money. After getting cash, he vanished into the nearby Metro station, police said. No injuries were reported. The robber was described as a black man between the ages of 20 and 25 who is 5 feet 8 and about 180 pounds, police said. They said that he had short hair, a mustache and goatee, and that he wore a white T-shirt and khaki shorts. In other gun-related incidents, miles from Foggy Bottom and Georgetown, someone was shot and wounded Thursday by an assailant who “produced a gun” in the 2900 block of Mills Avenue NE, police said. The same day, in the 200 block of Orange Street SE, patrolling officers spotted someone “trying to conceal himself,” police said. They said he had a 9mm pistol and that he was arrested. |
