Jerome Leroy Wright, 32, of Northeast died at the scene in the 700 block of H Street NE, officials said. He had briefly fled custody last week at the same site. He had faced drug charges. During the alleged robbery attempt, one man resisted and in a struggle for the gun was wounded, according to a law enforcement official who was not authorized to publicly discuss case details and spoke on condition of anonymity. The man then gained control of the gun and shot Wright, according to the official.
