The man fatally shot early Saturday in Northeast Washington was trying to rob four men and was killed during a struggle for his gun, according to law enforcement officials.

Jerome Leroy Wright, 32, of Northeast died at the scene in the 700 block of H Street NE, officials said. He had briefly fled custody last week at the same site. He had faced drug charges.

During the alleged robbery attempt, one man resisted and in a struggle for the gun was wounded, according to a law enforcement official who was not authorized to publicly discuss case details and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The man then gained control of the gun and shot Wright, according to the official. The man and a second wounded man were taken to hospitals.

A patient at MedStar Washington Hospital Center died Thursday after being critically injured last week in an altercation with two hospital security officers, the hospital said in a statement.

D.C. police have been asked to investigate, the statement said.

A woman died after her car crashed into an apartment house Saturday night in District Heights, authorities said. They said she was later found to have a gunshot wound, but it was not clear if a homicide investigation was under way.

Residents were displaced after the incident on Rochell Avenue.

On Sunday morning, a car crashed into a gas meter at an apartment house on Fairfax Road in Bethesda, displacing residents at least temporarily.

A Silver Spring man was killed Sunday when his car overturned on an Interstate 270 ramp in Montgomery County, Maryland State Police said.

They said Guillermo M. Yarin Romero, 56, lost control on a ramp to Shady Grove Road.

In Virginia, Jimy Eldair Castro-Rivas, 19, of Woodbridge, was killed Saturday night on Telegraph Road in the Lorton area when his car slid across the road on a turn near Lockport Place and struck two other vehicles, Fairfax County police said.
