Major chain reaction crash in Baltimore area injures 11
Version 0 of 1. At least eleven people were injured in a 13-vehicle chain reaction crash Monday night on an Interstate highway ramp in the Baltimore area, the Maryland state police said. Vehicles involved included a private ambulance and a tractor trailer. The collision occurred on the ramp from the outer loop of Interstate 695, to the southbound Jones Falls expressway, both key arteries.Interstate 695 is known as the Baltimore Beltway. According to preliminary investigation the chain reaction was touched off when a vehicle struck a Jersey barrier, and became disabled. It was then struck by oncoming vehicles, the state police said. They said the tractor trailer jackknifed across the roadway. When the ambulance became involved no patients were on board, the police said. Although it was some distance from Washington, the crash was notable because of the number of vehicles involved and the number of injuries. It also shut down an Interstate highway for a time. Eleven people were taken to hospitals, police said. It was not known how many other people may also have been injured. . |
