Video captures Californian police officer punching mother in face during arrest for an alleged seatbelt violation

Version 0 of 1. Footage has emerged showing a mother being punched in the face by a police officer in Carlsbad, California, during her arrest for an alleged seatbelt violation. The incident took place in July 2013 in front of her children. 40-year-old Cindy Hahn is now suing the city of Carlsbad, California, for using excessive force during the arrest. The footage shows officers arriving on the scene with Ms Hahn already on the floor. An officer proceeds to overpower Ms Hahn and repeatedly hit her in the face and use his knee to strike her torso. A tearful onlooker can be heard screaming: “What are y’all doing to her?”; while Ms Hahn repeatedly cries, “Help me, please!” and “I didn’t do anything”. Ms Hahn has told KCAL-TV that the incident began when she asked a police officer about a nearby car alarm ringing. She claims, “He says, ‘Is this your car?’ And I said, ‘No, sir.’ And he says, ‘Then mind your own f***ing business’”. Ms Hahn rang a non-emergency police hotline to complain about the officer’s behaviour. The officer then allegedly pulled her over due to a seatbelt violation and arrested her in front of her children. Ms Hahn claims that she has suffered permanent memory loss and brain trauma from the incident. |
