Two dead after screwdriver attack

A double murder investigation has begun after the death of a second man following a weekend attack in Dublin.

Pawel Kalite, 26, who was Polish, had been critically ill since being stabbed in the head with a screwdriver in the Drimnagh area on Saturday.

His friend, Marius Szwajkos, 27, from Szczucin in southern Poland, died on Monday after the assault.

Both were attacked near their rented home at Benbulbin Road as they went to a shop with a female friend.

It is understood Mr Kalite died on Wednesday night.

Investigating officers, who are continuing to question a 17-year-old man atCrumlin Garda Station, confirmed a double murder inquiry has now been launched.

Two other teenagers - aged 19 and 15 - also arrested in connection with thekilling have been released from custody while files are being prepared for theDirector of Public Prosecutions.
