An Arlington man has been charged with attempting to sexually assault two women and has admitted to his role in a third attack, Arlington police said Wednesday.

Melvin Perez Bonilla, 19, was arrested early Wednesday. After being questioned at police headquarters, he confessed to multiple sexual assault attempts between July and September, police said.

The first attack occurred July 25 as a 25-year-old woman was walking alone around 1:20 a.m. in the 1900 block of North Scott Street in the Clarendon area, police said. A 29-year-old woman was attacked around 2:45 a.m. Aug. 8 in the 1900 block of North Highland Street when she was walking alone.

A third woman, 23, was attacked Sept. 29 around 10:20 p.m. as she was walking home in the 1200 block of North Quincy Street.

Each victim provided details about the attacks and a description of the assailant, police said. Detectives were able to obtain surveillance video of the suspect and develop a composite sketch, which was previously released.

Bonilla was taken into custody after police observed him exiting a Metrobus in the Courthouse area Wednesday, police said.

Police are awaiting a DNA analysis to confirm Bonilla’s involvement in the August attack. Bonilla has been charged with two counts of abduction with intent to defile. He is being held at the Arlington County jail.

“Our officers have taken a dangerous individual off the streets and the community should feel a little safer knowing he is behind bars,” Daniel J. Murray, deputy chief of the criminal investigations division in the Arlington County Police Department, said in a statement.
