An 18-year-old Northern Arizona University student has been taken into custody after allegedly killing one student and injuring three others outside of a Greek-life dormitory, campus police said on Friday. | |
The suspected shooter was identified by police as 18-year-old Steven Jones, a student at the university. NAU police chief Gregory T Fowler said during a press conference that he submitted to officers when they arrived on the scene, and is cooperating with police. | |
The shooting, which occurred in a campus parking lot near the Mountain View residence hall on the north-east end of the Flagstaff Campus around 1.20 am local time, began as a fight between two groups on campus, Fowler said. | |
He said the victims, all male Freshmen, sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The three injured victims are being treated for their wounds at nearby Flagstaff medical center. | |

NAU president Rita Cheng called the shooting “isolated” and “unprecedented” speaking at the press conference. | |
