The BBC reported that Scully joined the corporation in 1965 as a freelance journalist and was a presenter on Nationwide. He was selected in 1981 to join Arthur Negus in presenting Antiques Roadshow.
According to the broadcaster, Scully resigned because it was feared that his role with an internet auction company would compromise his objectivity.
At the time of his departure, he said: “I have particularly enjoyed my long association with the Antiques Roadshow which has always been a delight and one of the best jobs in broadcasting.
