Friday’s deposition was the first time Cosby had addressed allegations of sexual misconduct under oath since giving a deposition in a Pennsylvania case in 2005. In that case a former Temple University employee, Andrea Constand, alleged Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her. The case was settled out of court in 2006, for an undisclosed sum.Friday’s deposition was the first time Cosby had addressed allegations of sexual misconduct under oath since giving a deposition in a Pennsylvania case in 2005. Cosby’s lawyers have asked the judge to dismiss that lawsuit, arguing that comments the comedian made about the women were made in self-defense and were protected by the first amendment. US district court judge Mark Mastroianni dismissed their request.
“As we’d expected and hoped, the judge rejected every one of Mr Cosby’s attempts to throw the case out of court and allowed the case to proceed,” said Joseph Cammarata, an attorney who represents the three women.
“We will take Mr Cosby’s deposition at the earliest possible moment. My clients look forward to moving the case forward and to restoring their good names and reputations.”
Allred also plans to depose Cosby again. “We will also be seeking to take a further deposition of Mr Cosby at a later date,” she said on Saturday.
On Friday evening, NBC’s Dateline aired interviews with 29 of Cosby’s accusers.
