A Hong Kong court has set a trial date of October 2016 for the British banker accused of murdering two Indonesian women last year, including one whose body was found stuffed inside a suitcase.

A high court judge scheduled Rurik Jutting’s case to go to trial on 25 October 2016, his lawyer, Michael Vidler, said on Wednesday. The trial is expected to last 20 days, with a pre-trial review set for 24 August 2016.

Jutting, 30, did not appear at the brief hearing. The Cambridge graduate and former Bank of America Merrill Lynch employee is accused of killing Sumarti Ningsih and Seneng Mujiasih, who were both in their 20s.

He has been in custody since his arrest last November after the women’s bodies were found in his Hong Kong apartment. One of them had knife wounds on the neck and buttock, while the other was found inside a suitcase left on the balcony.

Jutting was deemed fit to enter a plea following psychiatric assessments last year, but has not yet done so.
