LONDON — The Turkish police are investigating the death of a British journalist and activist whose body was found on Saturday at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul. The journalist, Jacky Sutton, 50, had worked for the BBC World Service, the United Nations and other organizations, and she was a Ph.D. candidate at Australian National University, studying women working as journalists in Iraq and Afghanistan. In June, she was named Iraq country director for the Institute for War & Peace Reporting, a nonprofit group, which said in a statement that Ms. Sutton was in Istanbul for a layover, returning from London to her base in Erbil, Iraq. “We are in total shock,” said the organization’s executive director, Anthony Borden. |
