Version 0 of 1.

Authorities are investigating whether an unidentified man, who tried to rob a bank on Connecticut Avenue NW, is connected to a Monday robbery on the same street, an FBI spokeswoman said.

On Monday at 9:55 a.m., the man robbed a Sun Trust bank at 5000 Connecticut Avenue NW. He entered the bank with a note and demanded money from a teller, authorities said.

An FBI spokeswoman said the man fled with an undetermined amount of cash.

But investigators are looking into whether the man was the same person who attempted to rob a bank on Friday morning in the same Chevy Chase area in the District.

Around 11:55 a.m. that day, a man walked into Citibank at 5700 Connecticut Avenue NW. That robber also had a note demanding cash, but fled the bank without taking any, a spokeswoman said.

She added that the wording in both notes was similar and in both instances the men fled on foot.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the identification, arrest and conviction of the bank robber. Authorities ask anyone with information to call the FBI at (202) 278-2000 or D.C. police department’s tip line at (202) 727-9099. In addition, tipsters can submit anonymous information to the police department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.
