Man fatally shot in Northwest Washington

D.C. police said a man was fatally shot Tuesday morning while sitting in a car in Northwest Washington.

Few details were immediately available, and the man was said to be unconscious when police arrived at the scene. Police did not release the man’s identity but said it is a homicide.

The incident began around 11:12 a.m. in the 2900 block of Sherman Avenue NW. Police said the man was shot in the chest.

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier went to the scene and said the man was sitting in a car and “apparently someone walked up to him and shot him.”
