At least four demonstrators were killed Tuesday in Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo, when police officers opened fire on a crowd that would not disperse, protesters said. Thousands of people were protesting a referendum planned for Sunday on removing term limits for President Denis Sassou Nguesso, who has led the country for all but five years since 1979. Police stations also were attacked in the south of the city, an opposition stronghold.
