Football supporters had been gathering in the city centre ahead of Manchester City’s Champions League game against Sevilla at the Etihad Stadium. Footage and photographs circulated on social media showing chairs being thrown. There were suggestions some of the people involved were wearing the colours of Polish club Slask Wroclaw, whose fans have clashed with those of Sevilla in 2014 when disorder broke out in the Spanish city. Greater Manchester Police later tweeted that another person had been apprehended, saying: “Update from arrests earlier. A 4th male was arrested after being found hiding in a restaurant near where the other 3 were detained.” A fourth was apprehended some time later in the evening.
