A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed Wednesday night in Bethesda, Montgomery County police said.

Authorities released few details about the fatal collision, but said the pedestrian was a woman. She was struck around 6:58 p.m. in the 5500 block of River Road between Dorset Avenue and Springfield Drive. The vehicle involved remained at the scene, authorities said.

Southbound River Road was closed to traffic at Springfield Drive while police investigated the crash.
