A male pupil has died after a stabbing at an Aberdeen school. A 16-year-old male pupil has died after being stabbed at an Aberdeen school.
Police Scotland said another male had been detained after the emergency services were called to Cults Academy at about 13:30. Police are treating the incident at Cults Academy as a murder inquiry.
Aberdeen City Council earlier said it was aware of what it described as a serious incident. Officers said another 16-year-old boy had been detained after the emergency services were called to the school at about 13:30.
Ch Insp Graeme Mackie said: "This is a shocking and extraordinary incident for Aberdeen and firstly our thoughts are with the family and friends of the boy who has sadly lost his life today."
He added: "A full and thorough inquiry is under way."

Affluent suburb
Police Scotland said: "One male pupil has been taken by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.
"A further male has been detained and is currently assisting officers with their enquiries.
"Inquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing and officers will remain at the scene for the time being. Next of kin are aware.
"No other details are available at this time."
Police Scotland later said he had died.
