Date Lab: He told himself he was just going to go right in for the hug
Version 0 of 1. Outgoing, confident Megan Pierce is an urban planner who likes a guy’s guy with a hint of nerdy. So we paired her with tall, handsome Ayo Osho, an engineer with a killer smile. Could their planning skills be a match? We sent them to Bibiana in the District. Date Predicto-meter Our highly analytical tool for determining whether our daters will hit it off. Megan: I got there first. I thought the Metro would be a wreck with the pope in town. Ayo: I walk in and I said, “Hey, I’m here for the Washington Post thing,” and the host said, “Oh, this is your date.” Megan: He had a smile on his face, which was really nice, and he was tall, and I just remember his teeth. Ayo: She had a skirt on. I thought she looked good. Overall, I was like: “Wow!” She was pretty tall. I don’t know if it was nerves or what, but I remember thinking on my way there that I was just going to go in for the hug, but I don’t know if I did it. I know we shook hands. Megan: We went straight to the table. We decided to go crazy on the [tasting] menu. Ayo: She said we should get something from each section. We were totally on the same page. Megan: He cracked great jokes. I don’t remember any, but I was laughing the whole time. Ayo: She laughed at some of my cheesy jokes. I know there was one very hearty chuckle, but I don’t know what I said. Megan: We had been eating slowly, and by the time they brought the steak it was cold. I wanted to return it so we could get a fresh steak. Ayo: It’s something that I would never do. For her it was not a problem. ... She was like, “No, we should send it back.” She was totally polite. She handled it well. Megan: The one thing I liked the most about him was he was very chill, very calm. He was very personable. He told me that he had recently gotten into beers, and I mentioned that I had as well. Ayo: We both agreed that we didn’t like super hoppy beers. ... I think both of us enjoy a good adult beverage. [But] we didn’t want to make the impression on each other that we were booze hounds. Megan: We ended up going to CityCenter and grabbing a drink. We drank at Del Frisco’s. Ayo: I just remember a long walk to get to our seat at the end of the bar. I said something like, “Yeah, I’ve been here.” I was kind of like giving fake thumbs-up. Megan: He was like, “Yeaaaah, that’s me, this is my date.” He said that’s how he felt when he walked in behind me. Ayo: That definitely happened. Megan: We sat at the bar, and he asked what I’d get normally, and I said probably a gin and tonic, and he said “Me, too!” But he said he was kind of thinking of getting martinis. I got a Tito’s vodka martini, and I think he got a Belvedere martini, dirty. Ayo: Around 12 or 12:30, she said, “Let’s take some more pictures.” We went nuts with the pictures. Megan: People were telling us how to pose. ... Then we were both kind of tired and it was time for bed. Ayo: It was pretty late. It was a Thursday. I was tired. I had a great time. It didn’t end abruptly. Ayo: 3 [out of 5]. It’s too early to talk about compatibility. We had a decent amount of connection. The conversation went pretty easily. Megan: 3. The date itself was a 5, but I didn’t feel a romantic connection. A good time was had. Megan and Ayo have been texting each other since the date. They plan on meeting again as soon as their schedules line up. Read previous stories and fill out an application.
