Pedestrian struck and killed in hit-and-run in Alexandria area

A man was struck and killed while crossing Franconia Road in Fairfax County.

Police said the incident happened around 10:45 p.m. Sunday night in the 5600 block of Franconia Road in Alexandria area of the county.

Khan Khan, 69, of Alexandria was crossing Franconia Road, headed from the south portion to the north side, police said, when he stopped in the median to wait for traffic to pass. But he was struck by a vehicle that was headed westbound on the roadway.

Police said the driver of the vehicle did not stop. Khan was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police said it is unknown if speed and/or alcohol are factors in the crash and they are continuing to investigate.
