A man who was shot early Saturday in Southeast Washington has died of his injuries, according to D.C. police.

The death of Van Joyner, 36, brings the number of homicides in the District this year to 134, a 50 percent increase over the same period last year. Killings this weekend made 2015 the deadliest year in the District since 2009, when 144 people were slain, according to D.C. police figures.

Police said Joyner was shot several times about 2:50 a.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of Savannah Street SE. Authorities said he died Sunday at a hospital.

Three other people have been killed in the District since Friday.

A man was struck and killed Sunday while crossing a street in Fairfax County.

Police said the incident happened about 10:45 p.m. in the 5600 block of Franconia Road in the Alexandria area.

Khan Khan, 69, of Alexandria was crossing the road, headed from the south side to the north, police said, when he stopped in the median to wait for traffic to pass.

But he was struck by a vehicle that was headed west.

Police said the driver of the vehicle did not stop.

Khan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities think a white, full-size van or truck hit Khan. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-866-411-8477.
