D.C. police charge man in August slaying on basketball court
Version 0 of 1. D.C. police on Monday arrested a suspect in the August stabbing of a 33-year-old man killed on a basketball court behind a middle school in Northeast Washington, authorities said. An arrest affidavit says the victim, Bobby Ellis of Southeast, was upset at being kept out of a game on a court behind Robert H. Brown Middle School in the 4800 block of Meade Street NE. The suspect, Lamar Young, 43, of no fixed address, has been charged with second-degree murder while armed. Police said they had been searching for the assailant since October. — Peter Hermann Part of 13th Street NW in downtown Washington was closed Tuesday morning as authorities investigated how a man fell off a building and died near Metro Center. The incident occurred about 8:15 a.m. in the 700 block of 13th Street NW, in front of the Macy’s department store and a Bank of America branch. — Dana Hedgpeth A girl died after a car crash Monday evening in Clinton, Prince George’s County authorities said. Rescue crews and police went to Woodyard Road and Canberra Drive at about 5:15 p.m., said Prince George’s police spokesman Harry Bond. Rescuers found people trapped in a vehicle, including a 9-year-old girl whom police identified Tuesday as Daichell Brown of Bolero Court in Clinton. A young man found dead in the woods Monday in Montgomery Village was fatally shot, Montgomery County police said Tuesday. Police said the man, identified as Roberto Gutierrez Cruz, 22, was a homicide victim. Police asked anyone with any information about the killing to call 240-773-5070. |
