Version 0 of 1.

The Republican presidential front-runner Ben Carson has a picture of himself posing with Jesus in a home filled with paraphernalia all focused on him, it has been revealed.

In what some media have called a "homage" to himself, the home of Dr Carson has walls of plaques, awards, magazine cuttings and paintings dedicated just to himself.

Centrepieces include a large painting of himself over the fireplace - and a drawing of Jesus with his hand on Dr Carson's shoulder - in pictures published by the Guardian.

Twitter users were quick to point out that the apparent egotistical implications of the picture.

It is not known who painted the picture or whether it was a gift to Dr Carson, The Guardian reported.

Elsewhere in the house, a marble carving depicted the Biblical imperative to be humble, with a Proverbs quote on the wall reading: "By Humility and The Fear of the Lord are Riches, Honor and Life".

He also had plaques to himself covering a wall, along with a display case of memorabilia and magazine cuttings which mentioned him.

Mr Carson, who is a retired neurosurgeon, is currently leading the Republican presidential race to replace Barack Obama against Hilary Clinton's challenge from the Democrats.

While fellow Republican Donald Trump was initially high in the polls, a poll by NBC News and the Wall Street Journal said Dr Carson had pulled ahead on 29 per cent over Mr Trump's 23 per cent, CNN reported this week.

A poll by The Huffington Post places Dr Carson a couple of percentage points ahead of Mrs Clinton, at 47.5 per cent.

He received media and public criticism for saying he would never support a Muslim being President of the US, despite this being in opposition to the constitution.

More recently he has come under fire for apparently exaggerating claims of a university scholarship.

Mr Carson has said on Fox News that he is subject to a "media bias" against him.
