Relatives of purported white supremacist facing drug, gun charges
Version 0 of 1. Two relatives of a Richmond area man that federal authorities allege was involved in a white supremacist plot to attack churches and synagogue are also facing drug and weapons charges tangentially related to the case, Henrico County police confirmed Wednesday. Ronald Beasley Chaney, 58, and his wife, Terry Gunn Chaney, 52, were charged in the case after a search of Ronald Chaney’s home turned up marijuana, firearms, ammunition and fireworks, authorities said. Ronald Chaney was charged with possession of firearms by felon, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of fireworks and related counts, while his wife was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, aiding and abetting a person to possess a firearm after felony conviction and possession of fireworks. Lt. C. J. Eley, a Henrico police spokesman, said Ronald Chaney is the father of 34-year-old Ronald B. Chaney III, who was also arrested Sunday on weapons charges. Federal authorities alleged that the younger Chaney was part of plot to shoot or bomb black churches of synagogues, though he was not charged specifically with any crimes. It remains unclear to what extent, if any, the older Ronald Chaney and his wife were involved in the alleged plotting. Eley said that local police were assisting federal investigators with a search of Chaney’s home when the weapons and drugs were found, and he did not know what role the father or his wife played in the federal probe. An FBI spokesman could not be reached for comment Wednesday. |
