He suffered an injury to the back of his head and died at about 05:30 GMT following the robbery at about 12:00 the previous day. He had been working part-time for the family firm, based in Tockwith, York, driving a van delivering supplies to the cleaning industry.
The white transit van was later found abandoned in Clarence Street, Stalybridge. There was nothing of value in the vehicle at the time, police said. He suffered an "massive" injury to the back of his head and died at about 05:30 GMT following the robbery at about 11:30 the previous day, police said.
Mr Ray was left on the floor in the yard at the premises and spotted by a member of the public.
The grey transit van was later found abandoned in Clarence Street, Stalybridge. There was nothing of value in the vehicle at the time, police said.

Mr Ray was on his only delivery of the day. Police are still trying to recover CCTV of the area.
