Version 0 of 1.

A car struck and critically injured a man Wednesday evening in the Mount Rainier area of Prince George’s County, authorities said.

The vehicle hit the man about 5:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of Chillum Road, about five blocks from the scene of a fiery van collision that killed five people last week, county police said.

The man was brought to a hospital with critical injuries, said Mark Brady, a fire department spokesman.

The car’s driver remained at the scene after the collision Wednesday. According to a preliminary information investigation, police think the man was hit while outside of a crosswalk, said Cpl. Maria McKinney, a police spokeswoman.
