The 18-year-old suffered serious burns and on Monday morning was in an induced coma in a Brisbane hospital. Samuel Reeve, 19, suffered serious burns one side of his upper body and on Monday morning was in an induced coma in a Brisbane hospital. He is in a serious, but stable, condition.
Southport resident Sammie Wilson used a garden hose to help the teenager. Wilson said the man had banged on her door screaming for help and she grabbed the hose. Police have ruled out a random attack, saying the fuel used came from inside the vehicle rather than being thrown into it. Detective Acting Inspector Mark Procter said: “We know that the fire has started inside the car.”
Police are seeking witnesses and are yet to rule out whether a second person might have been in the car. It is also unknown why Reeve, who comes from the northern New South Wales town of Murwillumbah, was on the Gold Coast.
