A schoolgirl who was missing for five days before her body was found in undergrowth died from head and facial injuries, an inquest has heard.

Kayleigh Haywood, 15, had to be identified using dental records, a senior investigator told the coroner.

DI Simon Shuttleworth of Leicestershire constabulary told Rutland and North Leicestershire coroner’s court in Loughborough: “The preliminary and provisional cause of death is head and facial injuries pending further tests. Formal identification was completed by a senior crime manager and it was by means of dental records comparison.”

The hearing took place four days after Stephen Beadman appeared before magistrates in Leicester charged with murder and rape. The 28-year-old, of Ibstock in Leicestershire, was remanded in custody to appear before a crown court judge on 18 December.

Luke Harlow, 27, also of Ibstock, has been remanded in custody charged with grooming and two counts of sexual activity with a child.

The inquest was adjourned until 24 February.

Police search teams found Kayleigh’s body last Wednesday evening on a site near the A447 after extensive inquires in the Ibstock, Belton and Diseworth areas of Leicestershire.

The teenager, from Measham, was reported missing after being dropped off by her parents outside a school in Ibstock on 13 November.
