At least one person was seriously injured Saturday afternoon in a head-on collision on one of the Washington region’s busiest thoroughfares, Rockville Pike.

The collision occurred around 1 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the pike near Congressional Lane. In addition to the seriously injured person, at least three others were being evaluated by fire and rescue personnel, said county rescue spokesman Pete Piringer.

Some lanes of the pike were closed for a time during rescue operations.
