A Montgomery County police officer was struck by a possibly drunk driver while making a traffic stop on Rockville Pike on Thursday night.

Police said on Twitter that the officer, who was on foot before being hit at about 9:45 p.m., suffered serious injuries.

The driver stayed at the scene of the crash and was taken into custody by police. Police said on Twitter that the driver may have been drunk.

The crash happened near the intersection with Edmonston Drive in Rockville.
