Version 0 of 1.

A man who was fatally shot Saturday in Southwest Washington has been identified, D.C. police said.

Kwaza K. Blue, 20, of Southwest died at a hospital shortly after he was shot about 9:50 p.m. in the 1300 block of First Street SW, near Nationals Park. Police said officers on patrol heard a gunshot and found Blue unconscious. No other details were made available.

This year, 152 homicides have been reported in the District, up more than 50 percent from this time last year.

A man was shot and wounded Monday during a carjacking in Southeast, D.C. police said.

The attack occurred about 1:20 p.m. in the 500 block of Newcombe Street, said Aquita Brown, a police spokeswoman. Authorities found the victim conscious and breathing, she said.

Police were searching for the victim’s tan-colored 2014 Toyota 4Runner SUV, officials said.

In another sign that the 2017 Virginia governor’s race is off to an early start, former White House adviser Ed Gillespie on Monday held his first fundraiser.

Gillespie expected to raise $270,000 at the reception and dinner, said Chris Leavitt, who managed Gillespie’s unsuccessful U.S. Senate campaign last year and currently serves as an informal adviser.

Tickets ranged from $50 for “young professionals” to $10,000 for top sponsors at the event, at the Ritz-Carlton at Tysons Corner. Gillespie confirmed in early October that he would seek his party’s nomination for governor.

Gillespie could face competition for the nomination, particularly if a conservative favorite such as former attorney general Ken Cuccinelli II (R) gets into the race. Cuccinelli, who narrowly lost the 2013 governor’s race to Democrat Terry McAuliffe, has said he has not ruled out another run.

On the Democratic side, Lt. Gov. Ralph S. Northam is the only declared candidate to succeed the term-limited McAuliffe.
