Sheriff: Inmate tried to pay hit man to kill 13-year-old he sexually abused

Version 0 of 1. A Virginia inmate awaiting trial for sexually abusing a 13-year-old tried to hire a hit man to kill the teenager and her mother, Stafford County authorities say. Tyrone Maurice Warren, 22, has now been charged with attempted murder and solicitation to commit murder, in addition to the earlier charge of sodomy by force for sexually abusing the teen. Bill Kennedy, a spokesman for the county sheriff’s office, said that Warren was charged in the sexual abuse case in August and expects to go to trial in January. While Warren was in jail awaiting that trial, a detective learned that Warren was trying to pay someone to kill the 13-year-old victim and her mother, Kennedy said. Over the next two weeks, Warren placed calls from jail to a person he thought was a hit man, the sheriff’s office said. He agreed to pay $5,000 to have the two people killed. But in fact the person he was talking to was an undercover detective. Sheriff Charles Jett said in a statement, “I am thankful that no harm came to the two individuals who were potential victims of this inhumane plot of murder.” The public defender who is representing Warren could not be reached for comment. |
