For pointing a laser, Virginia man is charged with assault on a police officer
Version 0 of 1. The green laser light swept across the Charlottesville police officer’s face and body as he drove his police cruiser toward a city stop light. Within minutes, the officer arrested a 32-year-old man on a charge of assault and battery on a police officer, police officials said. The unusual incident unfolded around 10 a.m. Wednesday as the officer approached the stop light at East Market and 9th Streets NE, said Lt. Stephen J. Upman, a police spokesman. The officer traced the light beam to the front passenger seat of a dark sedan across the intersection and immediately initiated a traffic stop, Upman said. During the stop, he interviewed Steven Vance Gibson, of Barboursville, Va., and found two laser pointers in the vehicle. Police issued Gibson a summons for pointing a laser at law enforcement officer, Upman said. |
