Alabama’s Derrick Henry wins 2015 Heisman Trophy
Version 0 of 1. It was a long wait to hear who won this year’s Heisman Trophy, but for Alabama’s Derrick Henry it was worth it. With 1,832 voting points, Henry beat out Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey, who had 1,539 points, and Clemson’s Deshaun Watson, who banked 1,165. “Since I’ve been a kid it’s been a lifelong goal and a dream of mine,” Henry said while accepting his award Saturday night in New York. Henry winning is no surprise. He was the favorite going into Saturday night’s ceremony after breaking Herschel Walker’s Southeastern Conference rushing record with 1,986 yards for 23 touchdowns. The latter half of the season proved especially fruitful for Henry, who rushed for at least 2oo yards in four games since Oct. 17. His highlight reel was impressive. What wasn’t impressive to many college football fans, however, was ESPN’s 90-minute show before Henry was announced as the winner. Widely panned on social media as boring, the show inspired a plethora of memes from at-home viewers.
