A stand-off between police and a man wanted over a Melbourne stabbing has ended with shots fired and two people being taken to hospital.

Up to a dozen shots were heard about 7.20am on Tuesday at a Frankston home, more than 12 hours after police began negotiating with a man armed with a knife.

Minutes later, a man covered in blood was wheeled out of the house on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance while an injured woman was also brought out and taken to hospital.

It’s believed she was one of four people inside the home with the armed man.Police said earlier the four weren’t hostages but were “unable to leave”.

The home had been surrounded by police since Monday evening after a 46-year-old man allegedly confronted police when they arrived at the home to question him over a stabbing in Seaford that has left another man fighting for his life.

As police negotiated with the man overnight he allegedly demanded they bring him the drug ice.

Police arrived at the Frankston home on Monday evening acting on a tip-off after a near-fatal stabbing in Seaford earlier in the day.

A man, 45, was found with a stab wound to his upper body in Seaford about 10am on Monday and taken to Frankston hospital in a critical condition.
