The mother of two missing schoolgirls was not told by police that another girl who was believed to have been with them had been found, it has emerged.
Laila Salah, who previously complained no one was helping to find her daughters, Abir, 16, and Ahlam, 15, appeared confused when she was told that their friend Fardowsa Hassan, 13, had been found safe and well.
Hassan, from Wood Green, had been missing for nearly two weeks after disappearing on 6 December. She was found by police at an address in Haringey, north London, at 3am on Friday.
When told about Hassan being found, Salah said: “She has not been found. When was she found? Who told you?” She declined to comment any further.
Police believe the Salah sisters have not left the country and may be sleeping on buses or elsewhere on the transport network. Abir was reported missing on 6 December, and Ahlam on 12 December.
It is the second time the girls have run away from home in four weeks. The three went missing in similar circumstances on 13 and 15 November and were found safe and well on 20 November. At that time, too, police said they believed the teenagers were sleeping on the transport network.
A Met spokesman said: “The girls have been reported missing before. The last time was on 19 November, when they were missing for a week. They were found safe and well in the Wood Green area. Police are concerned for their wellbeing, due to the long period of time they’ve been missing. The girls’ family are concerned for their welfare and urge them to contact them, or the police, to let them know they are safe and well.”
The sisters are of Somali descent. Abir is 5ft 10in and of medium build, and Ahlam is 5ft 5in and of medium build.
