West Midlands police said a postmortem examination found that the younger woman had died as a result of asphyxiation. The results of Audrey Dunn’s postmortem examination were inconclusive and further tests are required to establish a cause of death. Detectives said they were not looking for anyone else as part of their investigation. Police were alerted by paramedics attending the mid-terrace house at about 9.30am GMT on Thursday.

The woman, who declined to be named, said: “A mother and daughter have lived there for years. The daughter had a history of depression, but she would do anything for anybody. I went to the shops at a quarter to nine and everything seemed normal, but when I got back, the police were here. Whatever has happened, it is very, very sad.”
Detectives said they were not looking for anyone else as part of their investigation.
