Fatal stabbing reported in Petworth area of the District Sunday evening
Version 0 of 1. A fatal stabbing was reported Sunday evening in the Petworth area of the District. The incident apparently occurred in the 4100 block of Eighth Street NW, near the Petworth recreation center, police said. It was not clear whether the victim was stabbed in the 4100 block of Eighth or found there. The victim died at a hospital, said Cmdr. Wil Manlapaz, the head of the 4th Police District. He was described as male, but his age and name were not immediately available. Police said they were waiting until his relatives could be notified. Little was known about the circumstances of the attack. Police said they were called to the scene about 5:30 p.m. They were told that someone was suffering from stab wounds. The homicide appeared to be the 158th in the city this year, compared with fewer than 100 at this time last year. An initial report said police had no description of any attacker. The playground occupies the northwest corner of Eighth and Taylor streets. Most of Eighth Street in the 4100 block is lined with rowhouses. The street lies between Georgia Avenue to the west and New Hampshire Avenue to the east. In another stabbing incident in the city on Sunday, police received a report about a wounded man in the 100 block of Irving Street. The address is near MedStar Washington Hospital Center. It was not immediately known whether the man was attacked there or went there for treatment after the attack. Three homicides were reported in the District last week. In one, a man died on Thursday after being shot last December. In the other two, a man was shot Wednesday and another on Tuesday. |
