A medical technician was charged with aggravated sexual battery following an investigation of an incident that occurred last year during a medical examination of a 71-year-old woman, Prince William County police said Monday.

Police said the incident occurred in June, 2014, during an examination at the Carient Heart & Vascular clinic in Manassas. A department spokesman said the woman reported it to authorities this October

Police said Thomas A. Purcell Jr., 42, of Manassas, was arrested at the clinic Friday. He was held without bond.

Carient recently became part of Inova Medical Group Cardiology. The alleged incident occurred before Carient joined.

Purcell is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 16.
