A chef has combined his job with his love of Star Wars to create a series of dishes inspired by the film.

Andy Kelly, head chef at Sophia's in Northampton, started by creating a dish showing the Millennium Falcon taking on the Death Star.

He went on to make a gin and tonic lightsaber and a dessert based on the planet Hoth.

"I'm a big fan of Star Wars and an ex-art student. I'm using food as a medium for artistic expression," he said.

Mr Kelly, who has yet to see the new Star Wars film, said items including the edible Millennium Falcon could take up to a day to make.

"It seems to be spreading by word of mouth and several people now phone up and say 'We're coming in on such a day, could you make me...'," he said.

The dishes range in price from £10 to £150.

"People on social media say 'I don't know how you could eat that' after all the work that's gone into it, but that's part of it," Mr Kelly said.

"At the end of the day it's food."

Mr Kelly, 37, said he produced a dish to coincide with Back to the Future Day in October and would also consider other film-themed food.

"I like the films, but also the artistic abstract dishes," he said.
